Rainy Day RV Show and Getting Spooned

 After a good night's sleep, we had a simple breakfast of coffee and yogurt and headed out to wash our truck.  It had gotten pretty dirty after many miles of driving down here (about 1800 miles!).  So it really needed it!  Paul was able to hose down our camper at the resort yesterday after we arrived, so it is looking presentable and the truck turned out pretty nice.

Then we headed out to our destination-- the Tampa RV show which is supposed to be the biggest RV show in the USA.  We went last year and had a fabulous time.  There are so many entertainers and fun new gadgets and widgets, new ways of organizing things in campers, etc.  We LOVE to see the new RVs and models that are out as well...we saw the new Durango Golds and were so impressed!  Even more so than the Brinkley's which I fell in love with last year.  We also toured some vans (which go for around $250,000!!)  I can't believe how expensive those camper vans are!  We also toured some of the "silver bullets" AKA Airstreams which were fun as well. 

One of the entertainers was playing the spoons...and I got "spooned"!  So fun-- he taught me how to play and I thought I had gotten the gist of it, however, when we got back to the camper and I took spoons from the drawer, it did not sound quite as musical as I had imagined.  Maybe I need to have a special kind of spoon...hmmm...

I forgot to mention the rain! It downpoured as we arrived so we were pretty wet as we started out our adventure at the RV Show, however,  things cleared soon after and we eventually dried out.

Now we are back in the camper...I tried a new dish tonight called Mediterranean Chick Pea Skillet.  There were a few complaints as I was putting the meal together and realized I didn't have Chick Peas!  So I used lentils in place of Chick Peas and I was very apprehensive at how this was going to turn out...however, the complaint department recanted and it was actually pretty good! (especially since it has a secret ingredient... kale in it which is Paul's least favorite). 

Now we are just relaxing with a glass of wine and enjoying winding down from a busy day.

Icy Trails

After taking an early morning shower, we went out to breakfast (could not find a local diner OR coffee shop...so good ol Mickey D's). Back at the campsite, we loaded up our camper and began heading out. However, the campground was so icy, our truck and camper began to slip and slide and couldn't make it up the slight incline to get onto the highway! We had to get out of the truck to be sure we weren't going to slide into the ditch or hit something. There were some nail biting moments as we tried to back out to find another way out of the slippery icy campground.  Thankfully we slid into some snow that gave us some traction. Phew!  We finally made it and breathed a huge sigh of relief once we transitioned from the ice to dry paved and plowed roads. As we traveled through Missouri we saw this sign.... So we really feel like we traveled some long miles today!! We also drove past the arch... then through southern Illinois and into Kentucky...and finally saw the sign we had been...

Traveling RVers - Day 1

 This morning we loaded up the truck and we (along with Shaggy) headed over to the camper to hook up to the 5th wheel.  We were a bit apprehensive as our auto leveling system has been fickle this year, but despite frigid temperatures and a blinking orange light, we were able to raise up the "leveling legs". In no time we were pulling ahead, checking lights, chiseling out the frozen chocks from the earth, and hitting the road. We are blessed to have very little wind and wide open roads! We are taking a less traveled road to avoid Chicago and heading instead through Iowa and into Missouri.  Shaggy, as always, has been a good traveler. This will be his first long distance trip without his life partner, Daphne.  We arrived in Bowling Green, Missouri at a campground there called Cozy C RV-- I am afraid the temperatures here are colder than they are at home!!
